The developer of MuteTab has invested thousands of hours into the research and development of MuteTab. The work continues via a Tab Audio API proposal that -- if built into Chrome -- would let MuteTab work the way it was intended, while also allowing mute.fm-like automatic volume control and having all tabs start out muted.
